change log for koduri as of 06/08/08

There are many things that are very rapidly changing with me… they are,  so...  so rapid that even I could notice them! Of course,  if I could do that, people around could, as well… with more ease actually. This should better be a post in this blog, than an entry in my diary. It’s just because I want things done with some transparency, exceptions exist though. Now, what are they?

My views on open source.

I still prefer some software if it is open source, but now, with a pre condition, which says, ‘that open source product should at least be as useful/functional as  it’s counterpart in proprietary market, if any’

NFS Sharing(linux) and Mounting(linux & windows)

This is useful in case you want to have something shared on one system(server) to access it from other system(client), without having to maintain duplicate copies. Here the server is a Linux PC, client can be either Linux/Windows. The method can also be tweaked and used for getting done several other things.

mail sharing/sync between linux & windows

The number of people using dual boot systems is increasing exponentially. And one of the most used thing across them is mail client! Now, if there is some way out to use the same configurations, mail folders for clients running on both operating systems, oh! that would save lot of headache.

Be it mozilla thunderbird, evolution or whatever the client that can be installed and run on both the platforms, here is a way out.. I will take thunderbird as the client, Vista as windows platform, Ubuntu as linux platform.

say you are in linux and have mounted windows partition @ /media/win and say you have all the settings and mail in windows. In the following steps, replace the text in angled braces "<>", with appropriate name.

step 1: just start thunderbird client in linux without creating any accounts. just start it and close it. this is to create the data folders in your home.
