Deepavali!
Update : There is a nice proposal by Prateek here in the comments section. Those who are interested reply there and we'll make it a success!
Somewhere a faintest voice seems to be screaming something, amidst the already begun dhoom-dhaam celebrations of most vibrant festival of India, Deepavali! I sure love watching kids treading around holding as many sparklers as they could! I enjoy watching that vibrant hue in the sky! But it's when I hear that faintest voice in uttermost silence, that I start loosing the interest. You already knew what it says, I don't want to repeat that. Ofcourse, for me there are other reasons why I'm not an active part of traditional celebrations of this great festival(dust, especially smoke irritates me a lot; for my eyes, they mean as much as poison!). So people, here is what one could do without having to tamper with the celebrations.

Before buying the crackers, see if you could find some Eco-Friendly ones. Eco-Friendly doesn't straight away mean they are totally void of green-house gases & carbon. They just do less harm. Just ask the person whom you are buying from to give you the Eco-Friendly crackers.
Note that they are atleast as good as their 'bad counter parts', sometimes they give you much more! I'm not bluffing! If anyone has any kind of information on eco-friendly crackers, let others know where they are available. I'll share it here if I get any info.
Few of you may be thinking of bashing me left and right for trying to convey this at a peak festive time, but please note that I'm in no way disturbing (or trying to) your celebrations. I just want it to be the best way for you! May be if the campuslife could take an initiative, the celebrations on campus could have this theme this year! And the alumni could propose the same, in their corporate celebrations, even!
Finally, Rohit, thanks for the inspiration! And please note that I'm not an anti-celebrant! And people, before saying/thinking all these are 'unimplementable', do give it a try!

yeah, true! This problem has received quite an attention when there was an accident,I think in Sivakasi. I don't have any updates on this problem, though.
We live in a world obsessed
We live in a world obsessed with money and the problem with that is that we go for things which cost less and that may be a problem when it comes to buying and using eco friendly crackers
change the mode of
change the mode of subject-selection
it's ridiculous :)
Exactly, it's a major issue!
Exactly, it's a major issue! Thats what makes this year a special one, with global depression in the economy, what I think(I don't even have the basics of economics in my mind, but still) the cost may not be a reason to skip the eco-friendly ones, as the traditional ones can cost you high too!
yeah, that subject thing is irritating me too, removed it :)
