Memories at IIIT-H
These are my memories of three+ years of stay at IIIT-H, in which I could see connections to me and my activities, rest of my life. When Pranav Vasista approached a few of us asking to pen down our most memorable things at IIIT-H, we asked "what kind?". He said, "Whatever it is, be it games, acads, relationships.. what not! anything you like!". He said, "Let's plan and organize it and keep the collection, say in our library." It'll let us know few people with whom we barely had any conversation. And over years, with same practice from every batch, it will really be thrilling if someday, some distant junior, who just skimmed through your 'memories', pings you with a 'Hi!'. right? So, all the fourth years, I request you to take off few minutes(before you leave) to recollect and pen down best experiences in your stay at IIIT-H. If you could send me a copy, I'll append it to the collection. Well, if our seniors could also join us, it's our pleasure :) So, let me start with my experiences ...
This is a shorter version of the original. So, when are writing it, don't limit yourself to few lines/paras.
A course from Prof. Vishal Garg and a friend cum lab companion, Sashi, helped nurture this complete illiterate of machines, to a tech-freak and a penguin lover, who could be pinged for some help. That's the first best thing that happened to me at IIIT-H. It also helped me keep away from idling. In those early days at IIIT, whenever I get an idea/something to do, I felt uncomfortable altering it's course due to limitations of my technical knowledge. But, today, I'm happy that almost always, it happens the other way round, meaning, doing something or some idea alters my knowledge.
A funny roomie like kranthi, and a thotti gang of the then 'GHEB 1st floor' pulled my head out from that tech-cyclone and let me breath some L.I.F.E! That's the time, I made lots of friends. And that's THE best thing. Just to reflect on how this thotti gang affected me, let me narrate two small incidents. A friend of mine(Junior college), Srinu, once asked me where do you like your Job to be. I said, "It should be somewhere with no human around!". Later, a year after I met these thotti gang fellas, I answered, to the same question, but to a different guy, "A place where there is some Life!".
Two years of Prof. Jawahar's guidance and a course from Prof. Bipin, took me one step higher, from where I could see my future, down few years, in cognitive science and vision. The time I spent under Prof. Jawahar's guidance was unforgettable. I'm puzzled by the number of projects, the amount of work he handles. I wish I could work in such organized way. I ran into many new technologies working in that lab, CVIT. And thanks IIIT-H for offering interesting courses like Cognitive Science and Computer Vision.
Lack of 'local'ness in Culture and threat to Telugu's very existence kept me busy, thinking what could be done, secularly at root levels. Few constraints like, I couldn't move much from college, left me very few options as of now. Henceforth, people witnessed some active blogging at tidbits.co.in, in various topics like Society, Indian Literature and Music, along with tech stuff.
And last, but the most welcome change in me, is that, Now I could, at least sense my temper and keep it in some what limits.
Thanks to this wonderful place, the playground of life!
